From a question to a wave: what happened after Ibiza, and why Humans.team is opening again

~7 min read
A wave of thousands of lights crosses the world map, strongest over West Africa
On June 1st, I wrote here that Humans.Team was becoming FreeWillWave, "for now." I was back from Ibiza with one conviction: before building a space for free humans, I first had to ask them the question. Four and a half months later, I owe you what came next. What happened. How many of you came. What worked, what didn't. And why, today, the two projects are coming together. An opening without ceremony FreeWillWave opened to the public on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at 11:23 UTC. The day of the solstice. There was no ceremony. When it opened, there were four of us, almost all in Belgium. I chose to own the small numbers exactly as they were. Eight days later, on June 29, someone in Canada became the hundredth Free Human. We were in eleven countries. The Wave found its own way In the June 1st article, I described a wave that would follow the Fibonacci sequence, with a daily relay: each person invites someone one day, and someone else the next. I have to be honest with you: that relay never started. The dates I announced passed one after another, and I eventually put it on pause. The wave came another way. Through someone's link. One person shares, another clicks, and takes their place with a number that stays theirs. Along the way, the site came down to a single sentence: the human comes first. On August 1st, there were 354 of us, in 32 countries. Then came Sunday, August 23. In a single day, 7,130 people took their place. More than eight hundred in the same hour. I spent the day fixing things while people kept arriving, and the site held. On Saturday, August 29, the ten-thousandth Free Human arrived, from Kenya. Every one of those arrivals came through an invitation. By the end of August, 1,850 different people had already shared their link with at least one other person. Today, October 19, the public counter shows 12,444 Free Humans, in 102 countries. Nigeria carries nearly three quarters of the Wave, followed by India, Niger, South Africa, France and Ukraine. More than 115,000 energy gestures have been sent since June. I want to be precise about this: these are sign-ups. I don't know how many of these people come back every day. But each of them came, and it happened. What I built during those months What was supposed to be a pause became one of the most intense periods of my life as a developer. A site in fifteen languages. A world map that lights up country by country. A film that became the front door of the site, also in fifteen languages. An album, The Wave, eleven songs with karaoke subtitled in each person's language. A television channel, FreeWillWave TV, broadcasting continuously from late July. A letter and a podcast every Sunday. Eighty-four articles of the Story, to keep the memory of what was happening. All of it alone, from Liège, while taking care of my dad, with artificial intelligence as my everyday tool. What didn't work I was expecting a snowball effect. I thought that at some point, growth would no longer depend on me. It was real, but not enough to move forward on its own. And meanwhile, the site costs money every month. At the end of August, I opened a support campaign with a goal of 2,000 dollars. It ended on October 15, far from that goal. A few people supported the project, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart. I also understood something very concrete: payment only works in 31 countries, and fewer than 5% of members live there. On October 7, I recorded a text I called: "Did I fail at 98% of the goal?" The next day, I paused the television. FreeWillWave moved to minimum mode: the Sunday letter, article and podcast. The site stays open, and anyone can still take their place. 2% remains. The site exists. The code exists. The first 12,000 humans are there. And the idea is still there. The first floor and the second While telling my story, I finally saw my original mistake clearly: I had built the second floor before the first. FreeWillWave is the first floor. Gathering. Recognizing each other. Saying: I am here, the human comes first. Humans.team is the second floor. The tools to live that idea every day: take care of yourself to be happy, then share it and earn a living from it. On October 14, I reopened Humans.team. Sign-ups are open, payments are real, and the banner that pointed to FreeWillWave is gone. Above all, the two floors are now connected. The birth portrait I built on Humans.team is now offered on FreeWillWave, to the winners of the hundred-days podium, and anyone can also request it for themselves. From FreeWillWave, you can now get a Humans.team Pack. The Journey Pack, 100 dollars: sixty days to remember, with the 60-Day Program, My New Me, the AI journal, and the ability to create your own events, contests and listings. The Awakening Pack, 500 dollars: everything in the Journey Pack, plus your own humans.team mini-site under your first name. And the first big shared moment is coming: The Wave, the good vibes music contest, on musicalcontest.com. Songs can be submitted from November 1 to 30, and voting runs from December 1 to 15. You can vote with your FreeWillWave account: one person, one vote. The possibility to start selling This is the real news of this autumn. For the first time, someone who arrived through the Wave can turn what they share into an income. When someone buys the Awakening Pack through your mini-site, you receive 80%. In practice, with the Awakening Pack, you have your mini-site and your personal link. When someone buys a Pack through that link, 80% of the price excluding tax of that sale goes to you. 15% goes into a common pot, reserved for what serves humans. The rest keeps the platform running. The price is the same for everyone, everywhere: 100 dollars for the Journey Pack, 500 dollars for the Awakening Pack. Everything is digital, delivery is automatic. And every purchase can be refunded, no questions asked, for fifteen days. I would rather say this clearly too: today, commission payouts work to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Europe. Many of you live in Nigeria, India, Niger, Kenya. I am looking for a solution for you, and I will keep you posted here. Sharing the project remains a choice, at your own pace. The mini-site and the program are worth living on their own. What I take from all this In June, I wanted to know who wanted to be free. More than twelve thousand people, in a hundred and two countries, raised their hand. I haven't yet reached the critical mass I was hoping for. But I no longer have to build in the void. The first floor exists. The second is open. And the staircase between them has just been laid. Every dollar earned here will be a sign that someone is doing better. There is a team getting organized to respect the human. Will you be part of it?
